Patient reviews & testimonials - why you need to ask for them

It is quite overwhelming how quickly the internet has become such an integral part of our lives.  Even if we don't think of ourselves as dependable on it, we're perhaps lying to ourselves!

'Word of mouth’ is of course vitally important for dental practices’ reputation and as a much needed source of new life-blood but it is the internet where patients go to carry out their research. Dental care is an emotionally involved purchase and as such, it is important to help your prospective (and existing) patients feel as though they can trust you.

‘Social proof’ helps build trust

Testimonials and recommendations from patients are not seen as marketing or overly ‘salesy’ because it’s not you saying it! Having patients say good things about you from their perspective helps people overcome scepticism and builds trust.

Real people are engaging

Perhaps because we are so overwhelmed with information and companies selling to us, it is refreshing when we see a photo of a real person or read about their personal experience. It is far easier for a prospective patient to connect with what a real patient says then with a stock image of a smiling lady eating an apple that we’ve seen a thousand times before.

Good marketing + good reviews = more chance of converting

It is a competitive market place out there so it is vital to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Providing excellent dental care and customer service is just the starting point. Your website and other marketing collateral needs to present your practice in its best possible light in order to attract potential new patients. Add to this good reviews and testimonials and you’ll have a much better chance of converting prospects to enquiries and hopefully long-term, loyal patients which is the ultimate goal.
You need to be proactive in asking for testimonials
You don’t get what you don’t ask for. Make asking for testimonials part of your process. Try to make it as easy as possible for your patients, and always give thanks. Finally, always ask permission to share/publish any photographs or testimonials provided by patients.
